Swansea City reach League Cup final

Swansea City make it through to the final of the Capital One Cup with a 2-0 aggregate victory over Chelsea.

Swansea City have reached the final of the Capital One Cup with a 2-0 aggregate victory over Chelsea.

A goalless draw on the night at the Liberty Stadium was enough to see Michael Laudrup's side progress following their victory at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago.

They will now meet League Two side Bradford City, who stunned Premier League opposition Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

A lively first half saw both sides show no fear in attack, but it was Chelsea who edged the opening 45 minutes.

Gary Cahill had his header cleared off the line by Ben Davies, while Ramires's effort was held by Gerhard Tremmel.

Meanwhile, Swansea came close to breaking the deadlock on the night when Michu's drive was kept out by the agile Petr Cech.

Demba Ba, who was preferred in attack to Fernando Torres, dragged his shot wide minutes after the restart before Frank Lampard lashed his drive over the crossbar.

Chelsea surged forward in search of a goal within the final 15 minutes, but Juan Mata's shot was gathered by Tremell.

The game took a bizarre twist in the 80th minute when Eden Hazard was sent off for an altercation with a ball boy.

The Belgian was thought to have kicked the youngster as he tried to retrieve the ball and he was duly dismissed by referee Chris Foy.

Chelsea pushed hard late on to give themselves some hope of progressing, but they were unable to breach the Swansea defence.
