De Guzman savours Europa League strike

Swansea City midfielder Jonathan de Guzman has admitted that his goal against Valencia in the Europa League on Thursday night was "really special" to him.

De Guzman netted a 35-yard free kick in Swansea's victory over the Spanish side, and the Dutch international has revealed that he spends a significant amount of time in training perfecting set pieces.

The 26-year-old told The Sun: "It was probably in the top three of free-kicks in my career. You don't score many goals like that, especially playing in a stadium like the Mestalla.

"It was a goal that was really special for me. I practise it quite often – and I have been doing it ever since I was young.

"It is one of my weapons, you could say. I have been taking set-pieces since I was a kid. In the academy at Feyenoord, we practised it a lot."

De Guzman is currently on his second season-long loan deal from Villarreal.
