Sunderland 'in talks' with New York Red Bulls over Tim Cahill loan

Sunderland are reportedly in talks with New York Red Bulls over a possible loan move for former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill.

The Major League Soccer season drew to a close in November and a number of players, including Thierry Henry, are expected to sign temporary deals in Europe when the January transfer window opens.

Cahill is understood to be keen on a short-term switch to the Stadium of Light and, according to Sky Sports News, discussions between the two clubs are ongoing.

Cahill, 33, made 226 Premier League appearances for Everton between August 2004 and May this year.
