Sunderland cancel Jack Rodwell's contract

Jack Rodwell's contract at Sunderland has reportedly been cancelled by mutual consent.

According to Sky Sports News, the Black Cats have agreed to write off the midfielder's £73,000-a-year deal 12 months early.

The report suggests that Rodwell will now seek a new club in Major League Soccer, but he has also been linked with Greek Superleague side Aris.

Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem are said to have made an approach for the 27-year-old in January.

Sunderland paid £10.25m to bring the former Manchester City midfielder to the Stadium of Light in 2014 and have since endured back-to-back relegations.
