Sunderland have confirmed that defender Santiago Vergini has joined Getafe on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent transfer.
The 26-year-old has made 51 appearances for the Black Cats since arriving at the club in 2014.
Vergini played 31 times in the Premier League last season as Dick Advocaat's side narrowly avoided relegation.
Sunderland continue their pre-season tour of North America on Friday when they face Mexican team Pachucha in Sacramento.
