Gus Poyet: 'We are close to new signings'

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet reveals that his side are close to sealing moves in the transfer market before the start of the new Premier League season.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is confident that his side will bring in new faces to the club over the next few days.

The Black Cats have been frustrated in the transfer market in recent weeks as their attempts to sign Fabio Borini from Liverpool stalled, along with a deal for Atletico Madrid's Cristian Rodriguez.

However, Poyet has revealed that he has a "great chance" of adding to his squad before the new Premier League campaign.

He told reporters: "There are plenty of things going on and I'm looking forward to things happening in the next few days, so it's all positive. I think we have a great chance [of signing players], a great chance.

"People are going to be surprised, which is great. It's all positive. We've had a few things that before we knew it they didn't work. But I'm hoping there's going to be some good news over the next two or three days."

Sunderland drew their latest pre-season friendly in Portugal against Vitoria de Setubal.
