Steven Fletcher hopeful Dick Advocaat will stay at Sunderland

Steven Fletcher admits that the Sunderland squad are desperate to see Dick Advocaat extend his stay at the club.

Steven Fletcher has admitted that he is desperate to see Dick Advocaat take the Sunderland job on a full-time basis.

Advocaat's decision to sign a short-term deal with the Black Cats has proved to be a success after Wednesday's goalless draw with Arsenal ensured that they would be playing Premier League football next season.

It was revealed on Thursday that the club had offered the Dutchman a contract, and Fletcher is hopeful that the veteran coach can be persuaded to stay at the Stadium of Light.

"It's been a remarkable turnaround since Dick came in," the Scottish forward told reporters. "He's only been here a couple of months but you could see at the end what it meant to him. He's a very passionate man.

"It would be nice if he stayed on but I think he's already made up his mind that he's not going to take it.

"It would be brilliant for us if he did stay because the job he's done here has been fantastic."

The Black Cats finish the season against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
