Bendtner feared he'd go blind

Nicklas Bendtner has revealed his fears of going blind after suffering a facial injury playing for Sunderland.

The 24-year-old striker, who is on loan from Arsenal, returned to the Black Cats side for the Tyne-Wear derby, which finished in a 1-1 draw.

"I'm glad to be playing again and Sunday was fantastic," the Sunderland Echo quotes Bendtner as saying.

"But I'm glad to be playing at all after the knock – I'm grateful that I didn't go blind and couldn't play because it was looking like that for a while. I was worried."

Bendtner broke his eye socket during the Black Cats' 2-0 victory over Swansea City in January.
