Fraizer Campbell returns from a serious knee injury to rescue a replay for Sunderland during their FA Cup tie with Middlesbrough.

Fraizer Campbell marked his return from a lengthy injury by scoring the equalising for Sunderland in today's FA Cup tie against North-East rivals Middlesbrough.

Championship side Middlesbrough looked to be heading into round five of the competition until Campbell, who had missed around 12 months with a knee problem, intervened.

Hosts Sunderland started the tie brightly but were unable to force Boro goalkeeper Danny Coyne into any telling action.

Their failure to do so was punished after 15 minutes by Boro midfielder Barry Robson. Sunderland's John O'Shea only half cleared with a header and Robson was on hand to volley the rebound into the bottom corner of the net.

Connor Wickham and James McClean had chances to draw Sunderland before the break, while Lucas Jutkiewicz shot wide when well placed for Boro.

Campbell's comeback goal arrived with 59 minutes on the clock. McClean was the creator, crossing for the striker, who converted the ball past Coyne for his first goal since April 2010.

Boro manager was forced to swap goalkeepers as the match drew to a close, with Coyne unable to continue through injury and young Connor Ripley coming on his place.

However, Sunderland failed to ask any questions of the 18-year-old and as a result the two sides will meet again at the Riverside Stadium to determine a winner.
