Borussia Monchengladbach come from behind to thrash St Pauli

Monchengladbach thrash St Pauli

Borussia Monchengladbach have progressed to the second round of the DFB-Pokal after coming from behind to thrash St Pauli 4-1 at the Millerntor-Stadion.

The Buccaneers, who play in the German second tier, took the lead on 34 minutes through Marc Rzatkowski, who collected Waldemar Sobota's layoff before hammering a shot into the top-left corner.

Monchengladbach regrouped after the restart, however, and turned their deficit into a lead in the space of just two minutes, as Lars Stindl and Ibrahima Traore scored in the 54th and 56th minutes respectively.

Stindl then put the game beyond St Pauli's reach in the 67th minute, the 26-year-old bearing down on the opposition goal and firing a powerful effort past Robin Himmelmann and into the roof of the net.

The Hamburg-based club, which enjoys a cult following worldwide, couldn't muster a response and were truly killed off four minutes from time, Raffael's long ball into the box converted by Thorgan Hazard.
