Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas plans a return to the transfer market after seeing his two major summer signings make their debuts in a 2-0 win at Stevenage Borough.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that he intends to return to the transfer market to strengthen his squad once he has assessed his current crop of players.

The Portuguese was speaking after summer signings Jan Vertonghen and goalscorer Gylfi Sigurdsson made their Spurs debuts in a 2-0 friendly win at Stevenage Borough this evening.

"We have started assessing the squad. We have got a big squad," Villas-Boas told Sky Sports News. "We have had a lot of interest in our players, but I think it is the time to make the right decisions and we use these games to make those decisions.

"I think the team is going in the right direction, but we want to make it stronger. Eventually we will go to the market when we think it is appropriate.

"There will not be a lot of changes, but steadily we will bring in players."

Spurs are reportedly on the verge of signing Manchester United defender Ezekiel Fryers.
