Tottenham transfer news: Likely Son Heung-min fee revealed as 'advanced' Los Angeles FC talks begin

Spurs 'slash' Son asking price by 50% as possible LAFC wage revealed

Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly be set to bank around £15.1m through the sale of Son Heung-min to Los Angeles FC, who are in advanced talks to sign the 33-year-old.

Son revealed at a press conference on Saturday that he was planning to leave the North London giants in the summer transfer window following a glittering 10-year spell, in which he has scored 173 goals in 454 games for the club.

The South Korea international sits fifth in the club's all-time scoring charts, is the highest non-English scorer in the Lilywhites' history, and has also registered an eye-catching 101 assists since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

Son could play his final game for Spurs when they take on Newcastle United in his homeland on Sunday, as the attacker is understood to have given the green light to a move to MLS outfit LAFC.

Son still has one year left to run on his Tottenham contract, though, having had an extension triggered in the 2024-25 season, so the Europa League winners are due compensation before letting him depart.

Spurs 'drop Son asking price' as LAFC close in on deal

According to GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham and Los Angeles are now in advanced negotiations over a deal in the $20m (£15.1m) range, which would only be half of Spurs' original asking price for the South Korean.

Son had also attracted interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, and the report adds that Tottenham would have been after £30m to sell the 33-year-old to one of the financial powerhouses of the Middle East.

However, Son only had eyes for a transfer to MLS, and Tottenham have now reduced their asking price to around £20m, but the Europa League winners will not block the 33-year-old from leaving if LAFC refuse to up their offer from £15m.

The California side are therefore growing optimistic of striking a £15.1m deal, although that will fall just short of the MLS transfer record, which is held by Emmanuel Latte Lath's £16.6m move to Atlanta United from Middlesbrough last year.

Los Angeles FC have apparently sent a delegation to South Korea in the hope of finalising a deal following Sunday's friendly with Newcastle, and the 'thriving' South Korean community in the city was also a critical factor in the player's decision.

How much could Son earn at Los Angeles FC?

While Son would have been in line for a once-in-a-lifetime contract in Saudi Arabia, the 33-year-old will not exactly be strapped for cash during his time in the United States.

The report adds that the Tottenham captain will be one of the best-paid players in MLS, and he could even break into the top three earners above Inter Miami's Sergio Busquets.

The Barcelona legend pocketed a guaranteed $8.7m (£6.6m) in the 2024 season, making him the third highest-paid player in the division, slightly above ex-Liverpool man Xherdan Shaqiri.

Lionel Messi is unsurprisingly the best-paid player in MLS, taking home just under £15.5m in 2024, while Toronto's Lorenzo Insigne is second on the list at circa £11.5m.
