Tottenham Hotspur allegedly made an enquiry about the availability of Inter Milan playmaker Christian Eriksen earlier this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur allegedly enquired about the availability of Inter Milan playmaker Christian Eriksen earlier this summer.

In January, Spurs made the decision to cash in on the Denmark international, who was able to leave the club on a free transfer later in 2020 if he did not pen a new contract.

However, the 28-year-old has failed to make a sustained impact at San Siro, often finding himself named among the replacements by head coach Antonio Conte.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League outfit were interested in a reunion, only to be informed that a transfer would not materialise ahead of the new season.

Speaking to the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Romano said: "The truth is that one of my sources told me that Tottenham have asked to take Eriksen back, but two hours later I spoke with Inter and they told me 'there's no chance to see him back at Tottenham.

"This is not a possibility, but I think someone in the club was considering bring him back again. Inter are saying that the player will stay, 100%".

Eriksen has contributed just four goals and three assists from his first 26 appearances for Inter.
