Tottenham Hotspur complete the signing of Barcelona's 27-year-old defender Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

The Frenchman becomes the fifth signing of the summer for Spurs, following the arrivals of Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison earlier in the window.

The move is subject to international clearance and a work permit, although neither are likely to be an issue, and the arrival is a welcome boost for Spurs boss Antonio Conte, who had been targeting a left-footed central defender during the transfer window.

Twenty-seven-year-old Lenglet was made surplus to requirements by Barca boss Xavi at the Camp Nou ahead of the 2022-23 season, with the Catalan side continuing to search for ways to balance the books amidst their ongoing financial issues.

After making the move to Barcelona from Sevilla for around £31.7m in the summer of 2018, Lenglet went on to make 160 appearances for the La Liga outfit across his four-year stay.

The defender was used sparingly over the past year, however, starting just seven league matches after falling down the pecking order behind the likes of Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia.
