Report: Vertonghen to sign new Spurs deal

Jan Vertonghen is reportedly close to signing a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

The centre-back, who joined the Premier League club from Ajax in 2012, has been out of action since January 23 after suffering a medial knee ligament injury.

In previous seasons, Vertonghen has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane after expressing a desire to play Champions League football.

This time, though, Spurs have a strong chance of playing in Europe next season as they are currently second in the table, five points adrift of leaders Leicester City.

According to the London Evening Standard, Vertonghen is happy at the club and is poised to sign a new three-year contract worth around £50,000 a week.

Tottenham have conceded 24 goals in 29 Premier League games.
