Report: Kevin Wimmer heading for Spurs exit

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer is reportedly close to a Bundesliga return after making just five appearances for the club so far this season.

The Austria international has been left frustrated by his lack of playing time, having been reduced to fourth-choice centre-back at White Hart Lane behind Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier.

According to the London Evening Standard, Borussia Dortmund are interested in taking Wimmer back to the German top flight, while Wolfsburg and Premier League club Southampton are also understood to have enquired about his availability.

The Saints could lose both Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk in the next six months, with the former thought to be valued at £5m, but Spurs may be reluctant to sell at this stage due to their Europa League commitments.

Wimmer, who has featured in high-profile games against Arsenal and Chelsea this season, joined Tottenham from FC Koln on a five-year deal in 2015.
