Newcastle boss Alan Pardew believes that Harry Redknapp regrets revealing that Demba Ba has a release clause in his contract.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew believes that Harry Redknapp regrets revealing that striker Demba Ba has a release clause in his contract.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager claimed on Friday that the Senegal international would be able to leave the Sports Direct Arena over the summer.

However, Pardew has suggested that reporters lured Redknapp into talking about the forward.

"I thought, listening to the conversation, that the media tripped him up a little bit, Harry," he said. "You don't want to end up talking about other players in the transfer window and I am sure he probably regrets that a little bit.

"He's a Newcastle player, he has been brilliant for us and that's all I want to say, really."

The Magpies will now be without Ba for a number of weeks due to his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.
