Image rights behind Dybala's failed Spurs move?

Tottenham Hotspur's proposed move for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala in the latter stages of the summer transfer window reportedly broke down to an issue over image rights.

Dybala was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United before Tottenham emerged as the favourites to land the Argentina international ahead of the 2019-20 Premier League campaign.

According to ESPN, Spurs had agreed a £60m transfer fee with Juve and personal terms with Dybala but were unable to solve the player's image rights issue.

The rights in question are said to be held by Malta-based Star Image Company, who were allegedly demanding a 'multimillion pound fee' in order to settle the dispute.

Dybala could still join another European club during this summer's transfer window but will no longer be making the switch to the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were able to complete deadline-day swoops for both Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso.
