Tottenham transfer news: Highly-rated Spurs youngster 'closing' in on Bundesliga loan switch

Highly-rated Spurs youngster 'closing' in on Bundesliga loan switch

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly held talks with Hamburger SV over a loan move for youngster Luka Vuskovic.

Spurs reached an agreement with Croatian side Hajduk Split back in September 2023 for the signing of the defensive prospect.

Vuskovic officially joined Tottenham this summer, and featured in pre-season matches against Reading, Wycombe Wanderers and Newcastle United.

The 18-year-old was an unused subsitute for the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain and the Premier League opener against Burnley.

Hamburg closing in on Vuskovic deal

Vuskovic was also named in the squad for the Premier League clash with Manchester City, but he still looks set to leave Thomas Frank's side in the near future.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Bundesliga club Hamburg are in negotiations with Tottenham over a loan move for Vuskovic.

The update claims that Merlin Polzin's side are 'close' to sealing a deal to sign the centre-back for the 2025-26 season.

Vuskovic is set to gain experience of playing in another European league after spending the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Belgian side Westerlo from Hadjuk Split.

Why are Spurs willing to loan out Vuskovic?

The young centre-back signed a five-year contract until the summer of 2030 following his arrival this summer.

Spurs will hope that Vuskovic has a long-term future in North London, but he will get limited playing time if he stays at the club this season.

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank can currently call upon Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso and Ben Davies as his available central defensive options.

As a result, it makes sense for Vuskovic to continue his development at a club that will be able to offer him the chance to play regular football.

Hamburg are back in the Bundesliga for the first time since 2017-18 after winning promotion via a second-placed finish last term.
