Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho says his club will not react to rival clubs' spending sprees in the transfer market this summer and will remain "balanced".

Mourinho's former club Chelsea have already splashed the cash with the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner and they are reportedly in talks to sign Kai Havertz, which would be another big-money move, while the likes of Manchester City and United could also spend this summer.

In contrast Spurs, having spent over £100million last summer, are not expected to do any major business, with Mourinho keen on a few adjustments to his squad.

A key element to their summer will also be to keep hold of their best players, something Mourinho said will definitely happen.

"Our targets are related to what we can do. Internally we don't have any contradictions, I am not asking for anything that cannot be done and the club is not promising anything that is going to affect the club as a whole, so we are balanced," he said.

"We can all look to a neighbour and see he is buying and buying and buying and spending and spending and spending – but none of us have to react to that.

"We have to just follow our decisions and do what we can do. I try to be very organised, I give my written reports to the club.

"We discuss improving the squad and we go together in a way that is going to be possible to do. Our objective is to keep our amazing players, those important in the structure of the team and try to improve the squad.

"Small changes, a big overhaul needs a lot of money involved. I don't think there are many clubs ready to buy, buy, buy – the ones that are going to do is because they can do it with or without Financial Fair Play.

"If they do it, it's because they feel they can do it, we know what we can do and what is not possible to do.

"We don't want to sell our important players and that immediately is a limitation because by not selling big players, you don't have also big incomings so we are going to be very balanced but again the objective is to improve the squad.

"And that I'm totally convinced we're going to manage."

Spurs go into their final match of the season at Crystal Palace on the back of four wins from five games, increasing their chances of Europa League qualification.

Their impressive form has also raised optimism ahead of next season as they are in fourth position in the form table since Mourinho took over in November.

Mourinho joked that he is the "champion" of the last five matches and wants to carry the form into the next campaign.

"If this is about individuals and individual approach, let's go for an easy one: I'm fourth in the league," he said.

"I arrived 14th, three points difference to Arsenal, I think 11 points to a Champions League position but if the league starts only for me and not for Tottenham – but the reality is I'm not important, the important thing is Tottenham.

"But if you want to go in that direction, I'm fourth in the league. If you think it's bad to be fourth in the league, that's your opinion.

"If you want to laugh a little bit with me, I am the champion of the last five matches. You can give that medal – champion of the last five matches, 13 points.

"I try to do my best all the time, I'm not worried about proving or not... I try to do the best all the time and my most important match is the next one and my most important season is the next one and it's not what you think, it's not anything that can come from outside that's going to motivate me more or less or put more or less pressure on me, it's just my nature.

"I don't need that. So I look forward to next season, I want very much to start next season and that's my nature."

Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho is confident the club will deliver in the forthcoming transfer window while also revealing there is no need to sell players this summer.

Clubs can start doing business from Monday and Mourinho is keen to strengthen his squad in order to ensure they get back into the Premier League's top four.

They have been linked with a host of names – including Southampton's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and South Korean Kim Min-jae – and the Portuguese, who has been assured by the hierarchy that there is no financial demand to sell his best players this summer, is happy with how things are panning out.

Asked if he was expecting to do early business, he replied: "Monday? A new player Monday? That would be amazing news but I think it's just the opening of the window.

"I think we're going in the right direction. Very calm, organised, thinking well, measured, thinking of everything.

"We know what we can do, we know what we cannot do, we know which directions we can go in, which directions we cannot.

"We cannot be reactive in relation to what our opponents may do, that we cannot do. We are very balanced, we're together.

"No doubts about what we need, no doubts what it is possible for us to get.

"Step by step we'll end with a better, more balanced squad than we have now, keeping the great players we have is a very important thing."

There will be definitely some movement in Mourinho's backroom staff after he confirmed tactical analyst Ricardo Formosinho is leaving to pursue a head coach role and will be replaced by a young coach with a "connection" to the club.

The appointment will be announced soon, but under-19s coach Ryan Mason, Robbie Keane and Ledley King are possible contenders.

"My other assistant Ricardo is leaving and he's leaving because he feels that he would like to have, in this stage of his career, probably one of his last opportunities due to his age, to be a head coach," Mourinho added.

"I'm not going to say where of course, that's up to him, but he's leaving and we all wish him all the best.

"Who is coming to replace him? I prefer that it's the club that's going to inform you about that but my decision was to go again in one direction that I had before in other clubs which is to help local people to develop, instead of bringing one more assistant with me.

"So it'll be someone with a history with the club, connected with the club and let's try to give him an opportunity because I'm not really a fan of people moving with a lot of assistants and forgetting local talent and people from the house."

Spurs finish a wretched campaign with a trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday, where they will hope to seal Europa League qualification.

To be guaranteed entry they have to finish higher than Wolves, who visit Chelsea, otherwise will be left sweating on the result of Arsenal's FA Cup final with Frank Lampard's side.

Mourinho has an almost fully fit squad to choose from as Dele Alli returns from a hamstring injury, while Eric Dier has served his four-game ban.

Tanguy Ndombele is the only player missing with a knee injury.

"All good, apart from Ndombele everybody is ready, including Dele Alli," Mourinho said of his team news. "Dele worked with the team all week, he's ready."

The game at Selhurst Park is almost certain to be Jan Vertonghen's final one at the club as his distinguished eight-year stay in north London looks set to come to an end.

Mourinho, though, does not want to be the one to confirm it.

"I think (he's been) eight years in the club and for me eight months, something like that, it's for Jan to be the man to speak about his future. Not for me," he said.
