West Ham United claim first away win

West Ham down sorry Spurs

Ravel Morrison scored the pick of the goals as West Ham United bagged their first away win of the season, spectacularly ending Tottenham Hotspur's unbeaten home record at White Hart Lane.

Kevin Nolan headed an early opportunity wide for the visitors, before Gylfi Sigurdsson, Andros Townsend and Paulinho all tried their luck down the other end but could not trouble Jussi Jaaskelainen.

As the first half drew to a close, the Hammers had two clear openings to break the deadlock. First, Winston Reid headed off-target from Mark Noble's corner before a clever free-kick routine saw Nolan volley wide.

Inside the first minute of the second half Spurs had a chance when Paulinho prodded through for Jermain Defoe, starting ahead of Roberto Soldado, who could not beat Jaaskelainen.

Defoe tested the Finn again in the 53rd minute before West Ham went in front midway through the second period.

Stewart Downing's corner was met by Reid, whose initial header hit Nolan before the centre-back swept home.

It was two in the 72nd minute when Ricardo Vaz Te bundled home at the second attempt after Hugo Lloris had saved his first shot.

Morrison added the third in the 79th minute in stylish fashion by finishing well after a run from inside his own half.

West Ham climb out of the bottom three and up five places to 13th, while Spurs are now three points adrift of joint-leaders Arsenal and Liverpool.
