Sigurdsson fires Tottenham past Norwich

Two goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson were enough to give Tottenham Hotspur three points against Norwich City at White Hart Lane in the Premier League.

Norwich appeared to set up for counter-attacking but struggled to gain possession as Spurs bossed the first half, with Andros Townsend and Danny Rose flashing efforts at John Ruddy's goal.

The hosts almost took the lead early on when Roberto Soldado found himself facing away from goal, but a clever back-heel beat Ruddy only to be denied by the post.

Sigurdsson's goal on 28 minutes was the result of neat build-up play with Soldado bringing the ball down for debutant Christian Eriksen, whose short pass found the Icelandic international to slot home.

Norwich had few opportunities but almost levelled when Ricky van Wolfswinkel latched onto a low cross; however, he was stopped by last-ditch challenge from Rose.

Tottenham made their dominance count after the break when Paulinho's cross was met by Sigurdsson, who slotted home to secure the points.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas found time to introduce record signing Erik Lamela in the final minutes, and the London side were lucky to finish with 11 players after Hugo Lloris appeared to punch the ball outside the area.

Tottenham have nine points, drawing themselves level with unbeaten Liverpool, having conceded just once in four league games.
