Jan Vertonghen has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have offered him a new five-year contract.

The Belgium international stated that he wanted to stay with Spurs, and said that he was taking "great confidence" from the faith shown in him with the new offer.

Speaking to Radio 1 in his homeland, the versatile defender said: "It goes without saying that I would like to stay at Tottenham.

"I still had a four-year contract but I see that they have offered me a new five-year contract as a great sign of confidence."

Vertonghen signed for Spurs in 2012.
