Tottenham Hotspur to appeal Younes Kaboul red card

Spurs to appeal Kaboul red card

Tottenham Hotspur have decided to appeal the red card shown to centre-back Younes Kaboul during Saturday's Premier League match against Chelsea, according to reports.

Kaboul was sent off just before the hour mark having being penalised by referee Michael Oliver for a trip on Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o inside the box.

Eden Hazard scored the resulting penalty for the Blues, doubling their lead before they went on to score two more in a resounding 4-0 victory that left them seven points clear at the top of the table.

Kaboul would face a three-match ban if the appeal is unsuccessful, although replays suggested that the punishment meted out by Oliver was harsh.

Spurs are now fifth in the Premier League table following the defeat, five points above sixth-placed Manchester United and four behind fourth-placed Manchester City having played three games more than Manuel Pellegrini's men.
