Tottenham Hotspur get council go-ahead for new stadium

Spurs given new stadium go-ahead

Haringey Council have granted Tottenham Hotspur planning permission for their new 61,000-seater stadium.

The Premier League side were given the green light at 12.29am today after a meeting of more than five hours.

"This marks another milestone in what's been a long and often difficult path," Spurs chairman Daniel Levy told the club website. "We're grateful to those who expressed their support.

"It's crucial we now clear the final steps in the legal process. The application is due to be considered by the Mayor early next week."

Spurs want to move into the new arena, which will also host NFL matches, for the start of the 2018-19 season.
