Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino reveals that Eric Dier will play no part in Wednesday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United due to illness.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier has been ruled out of Wednesday night's Premier League meeting with Newcastle United due to illness.

As it stands, Spurs need to win matches against the Magpies and Leicester City in order to guarantee qualification for next season's Champions League.

However, boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that the England international is currently suffering with a sickness bug and is not certain to return before the end of the season.

At a press conference, the Argentine told reporters: "Last night he started with vomiting and fever and now it's normal that he needs a minimum of 48 hours to recover to be available again for training.

"We hope he will be available for the weekend. I hope yes and I believe he can be available. At the moment only we need to help him. The doctors are helping him. Tomorrow we'll see how he is and after tomorrow we see if he starts the training again."

Dier has featured in 46 matches for Spurs in all competitions during the current campaign.
