Redknapp: Parker is the new Dave Mackay

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has hailed midfielder Scott Parker as the successor to Spurs legend Dave Mackay.

Parker picked up the Man of the Match award for his part in Tottenham's 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers yesterday.

"Scott was just amazing. I haven't seen many performances like that," Redknapp said.

"You hesitate to mention him in the same breath as Dave Mackay, who was one of best players who has ever played at this club, but it was right up there with Dave."

Mackay was a pillar of the Spurs midfield in 1960s and helped the team win the Double in 1961.

"When Parker was at West Ham he was a proper midfield player, who tackled and had the lot really," Redknapp added. "But he is probably a better player now and the best time of his career is now.

"Parker is a proper old-school player who loves playing, gets on with it, wants to win, good person, lovely family, comes in every day and works hard.

"That's what you need if you are to be a successful team."

Tottenham's win over QPR puts them fifth in the Premier League, with 19 points from nine games.
