Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino: 'Son Heung-min could play up front'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino states that new signing Son Heung-min has the ability to play as a striker for the North London club.

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that new Tottenham Hotspur signing Son Heung-min could operate as a centre-forward for the club.

A £22m acquisition from Bayer Leverkusen, the South Korea international usually operated in an advanced midfield berth for the German outfit but the Spurs manager doesn't see this as the player's only position.

"At Hamburg Son played as a No.9, a striker," the Argentine coach told the London Evening Standard.

"When Leverkusen signed him he started to play wide or as a No.10, but he was a striker who then played wide at Leverkusen.

"We have enough players in offensive situations. I am happy with the squad and when you assess the four games we have played, we have created many chances and we deserve to have more points."

The North London outfit reportedly had a late bid rejected for Fiorentina attacker Josip Ilicic.

Son, who scored a hat-trick in South Korea's recent 8-0 victory over Laos, could make his Spurs debut away to Sunderland on Sunday.
