Mauricio Pochettino says that Harry Kane is a key performer for Tottenham Hotspur, regardless of whether the striker gets on the scoresheet.

Mauricio Pochettino has said that he is confident of seeing Harry Kane hit top form after the striker fired a blank in Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 win against Newcastle United.

The England international, on the periphery of things at St James' Park, has now gone 14 games without scoring a Premier League goal in the month of August.

Kane mustered just two shots during his 90 minutes on the field, making it 46 attempts with nothing to show for it in the opening month of the season, but Pochettino has leapt to the defence of the 25-year-old.

"For me, he is in his best form whether he scores or doesn't score," Poch told Sky Sports News following the narrow win.

"I don't have any doubt that he's in his best form. He worked a lot for the team and I'm sure that he's going to score. But he can't score three goals in every game."

Kane only returned to training with Tottenham on Monday after top scoring at the World Cup finals with six goals.
