Martin O'Neill: 'Sunderland fans want to keep Danny Rose'

Martin O'Neill hopes that Tottenham Hotspur will be open to a deal allowing Danny Rose to stay at Sunderland permanently.

Martin O'Neill has said that the Sunderland fans would like to see Danny Rose stay at the club permanently.

The Tottenham Hotspur defender is on a season-long loan at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats manager told The Mirror: "It's very premature to talk about a permanent move because we haven't discussed it with Tottenham.

"The reaction of our crowd suggests they'd like to have him permanently but there's a way to go before that happens.

"He knows there are areas where he can improve, but he's pleased with his performances and is enjoying it here immensely."

O'Neill has previously expressed his desire to keep the 22-year-old at the club long term.

Sunderland face Manchester United at Old Trafford this afternoon.
