Mourinho sets unwanted losing record with Man United defeat

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho suffered an unwanted personal losing record with his side's 3-1 defeat at home to Manchester United on Sunday.

After Edinson Cavani's opener was controversially ruled out for a foul on Son Heung-min by Scott McTominay, the South Korea captain soon went up the other end of the pitch to net the opener for Spurs before the break.

However, United turned the game on its head in the second half as goals from Fred, Cavani and Mason Greenwood saw the Red Devils get one over their former manager in the English capital.

Sunday's defeat marked Mourinho's 10th in the current Premier League campaign - the first time ever in his managerial career that the Portuguese has registered a double-figure tally of league losses.

Furthermore, a Premier League side managed by Mourinho has never dropped as many points from winning positions, with Spurs now losing 18 points after taking the lead in the 2020-21 top-flight season, second only to Brighton & Hove Albion's 20.

Mourinho's troubles at Spurs have led him to become the bookmakers' new favourite for the next Premier League manager to be sacked, and his seventh-placed side sit six points adrift of the Champions League places.
