Gary Mabbutt: 'Tim Sherwood must deal with speculation about future'

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Gary Mabbutt believes that Tim Sherwood will always face speculation about his role at the club.

Gary Mabbutt has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood should not be surprised about the speculation surrounding his future at the club.

Recent reports have suggested that Louis van Gaal could replace Sherwood, who admitted on the weekend that he was concerned by the lack of support he has received from chairman Daniel Levy.

Former Spurs defender Mabbutt has praised Sherwood for the job he is doing but he believes that the rumours will not be stopping anytime soon.

"If you're in the realms of being a football manager, speculation about your role happens every single week," Mabbutt told reporters. "Whether your team is winning, losing, there's always speculation.

"It's one of those professions where no matter what happens there's always going to be questions asked.

"I've said before Tim's doing a fantastic job. I think Tim's learned very quickly."

Sherwood replaced Andre Villas-Boas in December.
