Spurs forward Harry Kane out to equal Andy Cole scoring record on final day

Kane out to equal Cole scoring record on final day

Harry Kane will be bidding to equal a scoring record held by Andy Cole when Tottenham Hotspur face Leeds United on Sunday.

Spurs head into the fixture at Elland Road at risk of missing out on qualification for European football, a consequence of a poor second half of the season.

Ryan Mason's side must better the result of Aston Villa, who face Brighton & Hove Albion, if they are to finish in seventh place in the Premier League table.

Although the North Londoners have struggled for periods of this campaign, it has not stopped Kane from putting together some of the best numbers of his career.

The England captain has contributed 28 goals from 37 starts in the top flight, making him an ever-present in the first XI throughout Spurs' league fixtures.

Kane has remarkably netted in as many as 25 separate matches, a run which includes contributing a goal in his most recent four appearances.

The 29-year-old has already set the outright record for scoring in the most games in a 38-fixture Premier League campaign, and he is now hoping to equal another long-standing feat.

If Kane nets at Elland Road this weekend, he will equal Cole's record of scoring in 26 matches, that being set over a 42-game Premier League season.

Kane already possesses the record of most Premier League goals scored on the final day of the season, netting as many as nine times in such fixtures.

Furthermore, Kane holds an impressive record of getting on the scoresheet in each of the last five season-concluding encounters.

One of Kane's top-flight strikes during 2022-23 came when Spurs posted a 4-3 victory over Leeds when they met at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on November 12.

From Leeds' perspective, they must record a win over Spurs and hope that other results go in the favour if they are to avoid relegation to the Championship.

However, Leeds are currently on a run of just one victory in 10 league games against Spurs, losing on eight occasions.
