Friedel becomes oldest Spurs player

Brad Friedel has become the oldest player to represent Tottenham Hotspur in a league game with his appearance against Bolton Wanderers tonight.

At 40 years and 350 days, the American goalkeeper breaks the record that had been held by Jimmy Cantrell for 89 years.

The evergreen stopper was recently recognised by the Professional Footballers Association for his feat of 300 consecutive Premier League matches.

Friedel joined Spurs on a free transfer from Aston Villa at the beginning of the season.
