Eric Dier delighted with first Tottenham Hotspur win

Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier acknowledges the importance of his side opening up their Premier League account with victory over Sunderland.

Eric Dier has hailed the importance of Tottenham Hotspur's maiden Premier League win of the campaign.

Spurs picked up maximum points at the fifth time of asking courtesy of a slender 1-0 triumph over Sunderland.

Tottenham were able to shut out their winless opponents at the Stadium of Light to lift themselves up to 12th place, with Dier quick to air his delight at full time.

"It was really important [to get our first win]," he told Sky Sports News. "We've been unlucky and we've made mistakes in our past games, but it was great to get a clean sheet and a win today."

Next up for Tottenham is a home tie against Qarabag FK in the Europa League on Thursday night.
