Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has revealed that he is pleased to be among the goals during pre-season.

The England international netted a hat-trick on Saturday as Spurs beat South China 6-0 in Hong Kong to seal third place in the Barclays Asia Trophy.

"As a forward, to get your goals before the season starts is crucial," Defoe told Sky Sports News. "It gives you confidence ahead of the season and I'm delighted.

"The boys have worked really hard. We've done double sessions every day and we've enjoyed it. It was a good win."

Tottenham continue their pre-season preparations on August 3 when they face Monaco.
