Brendan Rodgers emerges as a contender for the Tottenham Hotspur job after leaving Leicester City by mutual agreement, according to a report.

Former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has been added to Tottenham Hotspur's shortlist of potential managers, according to a report.

The 50-year-old mutually agreed to step down from his post at Leicester over the weekend after the Foxes dropped to 19th in the Premier League table.

Rodgers's final game in charge saw Leicester fail to hold on to a 1-0 lead against Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace, who claimed a last-gasp 2-1 win thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta's late strike.

Defeat at Selhurst Park was Leicester's sixth defeat from their last seven games during a torrid winless run, which also includes an FA Cup fifth-round exit to Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers.

Rodgers is expected to be a wanted man in the wake of his Leicester departure, and according to Football Insider, Tottenham are lining up an approach for the Northern Irishman.

Just one week before Rodgers left his post at the King Power, Tottenham and Antonio Conte parted ways by mutual consent, as Cristian Stellini took the reins on an interim basis.

The report claims that Spurs will soon make contact with Rodgers, who has long been admired by Daniel Levy, ever since his days in the Swansea City dugout.

While at the helm in South Wales, Rodgers led Swansea to Premier League promotion in his first season in charge with a 4-2 win over Reading in the 2010-11 Championship playoff final.

The Northern Irishman guided Swansea to an 11th-placed finish in the 2011-12 campaign and was subsequently hired by Liverpool, but Levy had supposedly earmarked Rodgers as his number one choice to replace Harry Redknapp 11 years ago.

Liverpool ultimately moved quicker than Tottenham to hire Rodgers, but the 50-year-old was "very keen" on the Spurs job, and not needing to pay compensation to Leicester could tempt Levy into making another approach.

Rodgers won Leicester's first-ever FA Cup in the 2020-21 season, as well as clinching the Community Shield, recording 96 wins, 37 draws and 71 losses from his 204 games in charge.

Tottenham and Conte mutually agreed to end their association after the Italian blasted his players in an astonishing press conference following their 3-3 draw with basement side Southampton.

Ex-Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann is understood to be Spurs' number one pick for the job, but the German is not expected to make a decision on his future until the summer.

Furthermore, with Chelsea also searching for a new head coach after sacking Graham Potter on Sunday, there are fears that the West London project could be more appealing to Nagelsmann.

Stellini takes over with Tottenham sat fifth in the Premier League table, but a draw against Everton on Monday night would be enough to break back into the Champions League places.
