Darren Bent feels he is 'the man in possession' for England and is confident that won't change should Harry Redknapp be appointed the national team boss.

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent is confident that he will continue to feature for England if Harry Redknapp is appointed as the new manager.

The Tottenham Hotspur boss is the overwhelming favourite to take over from Fabio Capello, who resigned as the Three Lions manager on Wednesday.

Bent spent a fairly unsuccessful spell at White Hart Lane under Redknapp's management, but insists there are no problems between the pair.

"To be honest, there weren't really any big issues between me and Harry," said Bent.

"Since Spurs, I have kicked my career on, and now, if I am in a blip, I just get on with it, go back and watch the footage of games and see what I can do better."

The Villa poacher was a regular for England during the European Championship qualifying campaign and believes he will continue to be as long as he is scoring goals.

"If I can keep playing well and scoring goals, then if Harry or somebody else is the manager, they will see that and pick me too," he said.

"As far as England is concerned at the moment, I feel like the man in possession."

Bent has scored four goals in 13 appearances for England since making his debut in 2006.
