Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay £6m in compensation to appoint Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot as their new manager.

Tottenham Hotspur would reportedly have to pay £6m to appoint Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as their new manager.

Spurs are currently searching for a new permanent manager ahead of the 2023-24 season after they dismissed Antonio Conte in March.

The North London club have been linked with a number of names, including former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann, who was believed to be an early frontrunner.

However, Spurs recently indicated that they have not held talks with the 35-year-old and were not considering him for the role.

Xabi Alonso was also on Tottenham's radar, but the Spaniard has insisted that he intends to stay with Bayer Leverkusen until at least the summer of 2024.

According to the Daily Mail, Slot has merged as a strong candidate for the position, although his appointment may prove costly.

The report claims that Spurs would have to pay £6m in compensation to prise Slot away from Feyenoord where he is under contract until June 2025.

Spurs are said to be exploring their interest in the Dutchman, although there are no frontrunners at this stage of their managerial search.

Slot has guided Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title this season, and the Dutch champions are keen to retain his services.

They are reportedly prepared to offer him a new deal worth around £2.5m a year, but Tottenham have the funds to better Feyenoord's proposal.

Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim has been mooted as a potential candidate, while Spurs appear to be considering managers that are currently operating in the Premier League.

A recent report claimed that Brentford head coach Thomas Frank is in contention, and they also hold an interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui.

Seventh-placed Tottenham are currently in a fight with the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa to secure European football for next term.

Interim boss Ryan Mason, who has also been linked with the permanent manager's job, will be hoping to pick up positive results in the final two games of the season against Brentford and Leeds United.
