Harry Kane's record vs. Southampton

Sports Mole takes a closer look at Harry Kane's record against Southampton ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League clash with the Saints.

Tottenham Hotspur will seek an immediate return to winning ways in the Premier League when Southampton pay a visit to the capital on Wednesday night.

The Lilywhites went down 2-0 to Chelsea before the international break but enter the midweek contest having just seen off Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 in the FA Cup.

Harry Kane was on target twice for Spurs on the day, and the England captain has developed an affinity for making the net ripple against the Saints.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Kane's record against Southampton ahead of Wednesday's game.

Many will forget that Harry Kane once plied his trade at Leyton Orient, where he had his first taste of football against Southampton in the 2010-11 League One season, with the Saints winning 2-0 thanks to a goal and assist from Rickie Lambert.

The striker would suffer back-to-back league defeats to Southampton when the Saints saw off his Millwall side in the 2011-12 Championship season, although he did come up with two assists against them in the FA Cup that same year.

Kane would post his first contribution against the South Coast side for Spurs in April 2015 - assisting Erik Lamela in a 2-2 draw - and he would have to wait until December 2015 for a first strike against Southampton in a 2-0 win.

The goals would soon come flying in for Kane against the Saints, as the England skipper scored in six Premier League games in a row versus Southampton, including a hat-trick in a 5-2 Wembley win during the 2017-18 season.

Kane's hot streak against Southampton would cease during a 1-0 defeat at St Mary's in the 2019-20 season, but the striker would proceed to make amends with his finest performance in this fixture to date in September 2020.

Son Heung-min may have taken home the match ball with his four goals, but all four of the South Korean's strikes were assisted by Kane, who also helped himself to one of his own in a 5-2 romping.

The 28-year-old's equaliser from the penalty spot at St Mary's back in December sees his tally against Southampton stand at 11 goals and eight assists from 17 matches, with all of his strikes and six of his assists coming in the Premier League.

Seventeen contributions in 13 Premier League games versus Southampton is by far the highest out of any player against the Saints, as the reinvigorated Kane seeks to spearhead Spurs' top-four charge once again.
