Southampton to offer Morgan Schneiderlin an extension?

Southampton are poised to offer midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin a lucrative contract extension in an effort to stave off outside interest.

Southampton are reportedly keen to offer in-demand Morgan Schneiderlin a contract extension to stave off interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

His relationship with the club's hierarchy was said to have broken down in July after he was denied the chance to link up with former boss Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

However, Schneiderlin has since blossomed under Saints manager Ronald Koeman, prompting suggestions that he is open to discussing an improvement on his £30,000-a-week contract - which expires in 2017.

The France international, 23, has also been linked with a switch to Arsenal but, according to The Mirror, Southampton can convince him that the South Coast is the best place for him.

Schneiderlin has established himself as a prominent figure in Koeman's side, who are enjoying a six-game winning streak in all competitions.

The midfielder is expected to line up against Pochettino and Spurs in North London this afternoon.
