Ronald Koeman responds to Sadio Mane, Manchester United speculation

Ronald Koeman is adamant that Sadio Mane is staying at Southampton amid speculation of a move to Manchester United.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has advised Manchester United that trying to sign Sadio Mane before the transfer window shuts would be a waste of time.

Having missed out on Pedro, who joined Chelsea today, the Red Devils are thought to have identified the Saints winger as a plan-B option and reportedly bid for him.

With 12 days left in the window, Koeman, who has lost Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin to Liverpool and United respectively, says that nobody else will be sold.

Speaking to reporters after the Saints' 1-1 Europa League playoff draw with FC Midtjylland - which the 23-year-old started - the Dutchman said: "Nobody is for sale, we will do everything to keep the best players here.

"We want to continue with these players and that's the most important thing. This is the worst situation for smaller clubs. We have to deal with the rumours from the press and maybe [leaked] from Manchester United.

"No-one talks about the best players of [Manchester] City, United or Chelsea. It's not nice but everybody knows we don't sell any more players. We keep going – nobody is going away from Southampton."

Mane only joined the South Coast side last summer from Red Bull Salzburg.
