Southampton boss Mark Hughes 'given one match to save his job'

Southampton will reportedly sack under-fire manager Mark Hughes if they fail to beat Watford at St Mary's on Saturday.

Southampton are reportedly ready to sack manager Mark Hughes if they fail to win Saturday's Premier League match against Watford at St Mary's.

The Saints have won just one of their opening 11 Premier League games including an ongoing run of seven without a victory, during which time they have picked up just three points from the last 21 on offer.

Sunday's 6-1 drubbing at the hands of champions Manchester City leaves Southampton 16th in the Premier League table, just a point clear of the relegation zone.

Hughes's side have also failed to score from open play in any of their last six Premier League matches, with their only goal in that time coming at the Etihad courtesy of a Danny Ings penalty.

The Mirror reports that the Southampton board have now decided to sack the Welshman if his side produce anything other than a win during this weekend's home match against the Hornets.

The likes of Sam Allardyce, David Moyes and Gordon Strachan have been touted as possible replacements, but the board's rumoured number one choice Leonardo Jardim is unlikely to be lured to St Mary's having been linked with Real Madrid and the Chinese Super League.
