Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has praised his players after seeing them secure an emphatic 4-0 win against Newcastle United.

England internationals Jay Rodriguez, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana scored the goals for the Saints, with Rodriguez netting a brace to take his tally for the season to 17.

The Argentine told Sky Sports News after the game: "I don't know if it was the best performance of the season, but it was certainly a fantastic game.

"Our players put in an amazing effort and they fully deserved the victory today, our fans deserved the victory today, and we had an amazing game.

"We controlled the game, we dominated the entire game and we gave our best. We wanted to give this amazing victory to our supporters and we're really happy for them."

Southampton currently occupy eighth place in the Premier League table.
