Dejan Lovren has said that Southampton "dream" of securing a place in a European competition.
The defender was the Saints' first signing this summer, as the club aim to build on their 14th-placed finish in the Premier League last season.
The Croatia international told Sky Sports News: "I had a discussion with the chairman and the manager.
"It's a great project and I want to play a part of this project and because of that I want to play here. Now I am here and I am very happy.
"We have a dream and the dream is top seven, top five, top four, I don't know. We want better, of course we want better, and we can do better."
Southampton are reported to have paid a fee in the region of £8m to secure the 24-year-old from French side Lyon.
