Kelvin Davis vows to stay at Southampton and fight for his place in the side next season.

Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis has said that he is happy to fight for his place in the team next season.

The 35-year-old has spent the last six years at the club, becoming one of the Saints' most consistent performers in that time.

The shot-stopper has played a leading role in the club's rise from League One to the Premier League, being named in the PFA team of the season for three years in a row. However, he could slip down the pecking order, with Southampton reportedly chasing Birmingham City's Jack Butland.

"I am a big believer that you train as well as you can and you reach the standard that is your best possible," said Davis.

"If that is not good enough to get you in the team, then so be it and good luck to the other guy. I've always been the same.

"As a goalkeeper there is one position, one shirt, and if I'm good enough then that's football. I'll support the club and will continue to do so while I'm here."

Davis joined Southampton from Sunderland in 2006.
