Ronald Koeman eyes "dream" Southampton FA Cup run

Ronald Koeman admits that he once dreamed of managing a team to the final of the FA Cup, much like former Netherlands teammate Ruud Gullit.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has admitted that he would love to replicate the achievement of former Netherlands teammate Ruud Gullit and reach the final of the FA Cup.

The Saints face a tricky third-round tie, with Championship high-fliers Ipswich Town the visitors to St Mary's Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

Despite this, confidence is certainly high on the South Coast at the moment following Thursday's 3-0 victory over Arsenal, and Koeman has now targeted a run in the famous cup competition to match the feat of previous greats.

"When I was a young kid watching the FA Cup finals in Holland, it was always a special day and maybe if I have one of the dreams, then maybe it is a dream to be playing in an FA Cup final," Sky Sports News quotes the 51-year-old as saying.

"I spoke once to Ruud Gullit [about it], and he had one FA Cup final as the manager with Chelsea, and it was very special [for him]. But it is a long way to Wembley, we will have to beat a lot of teams, so it all starts on Sunday."

Southampton crashed out of the FA Cup in round five last season with a 1-0 reverse against Sunderland.
