Shrewsbury Town have signed defender Sam Patterson on a one-year contract.
The 21-year-old, who had been without a club after being released by Barnsley, was rewarded with a deal at New Meadow following a trial period.
"I'm over the moon," he told the League One club's official website. "It's been a long time for me out of football. To finally put pen to paper is a great day for me and my family as well."
Shrewsbury are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Oldham Athletic in the league.
