Sevilla boss Unai Emery upbeat despite Manchester City heartbreak

Emery upbeat despite Etihad heartbreak

Unai Emery has told his wounded Sevilla side not to dwell on their last-gasp 2-1 Champions League defeat at Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The Spaniards, who went ahead through Yevhen Konoplyanka, looked on course to leave the Etihad with a hard-fought point, only for Kevin De Bruyne to lash home on 91 minutes as City, who initially equalised through Adil Rami's own goal, completed the comeback.

"We can look at the game in two ways, although logically one overshadows the other. On the plus side there is progress in the team, but the final score is a blow," he told reporters.

"We have to keep working on aspects of our play and we have to remember the things we did well. But this was a great opportunity.

"We tried to do a good job here and we were capable of doing it, but we lacked that little bit extra, and we have to keep working towards achieving that little bit extra. The positive part was that we tried right till the end."

The Rojiblancos sit third in Group D, three points behind the second-placed Sky Blues and four adrift of leaders Juventus.

Last season's Europa League winners, who sit 13th in La Liga, host Getafe on Saturday.
