Club captain Granit Xhaka missed the Bundesliga match at the weekend with Gladbach, but immediately comes back in for the hosts. The German side have made just once change to the side that started their previous Champions League outing, with Alvaro Dominguez sidelined with injury, so Julian Korb comes in.

For the visitors, there are two changes to the side that were comfortably beaten by Manchester City last time out in the Champions League. Kevin Gameiro and Michael Krohn-Dehli start while Fernando Llorente and Vicente Iborra drop to the bench.

Ahead of this match, Gladbach coach Andre Schubert told reporters: "Sevilla are very, very strong opponents. They have a lot of pace, but we showed against Juventus and Manchester City that we can compete with strong teams. We want to play attacking football. Their coach rested some of their players in the league – that shows how many good players they have and that they have respect for us."

Meanwhile, Sevilla's Unai Emery said at his pre-match press conference: "It's a tough task, but we are used to them. I think we still have a real chance of qualifying. A tough opponent awaits, in a fantastic stadium with fantastic supporters. This match means a lot to us. We've been playing well this season and now it's up to us to show our qualities. First we must take these three points and then we will tackle the next step."

Sevilla still have a chance to overhaul Juventus and finish second in Group D, joining group leaders Manchester City in the knockout stage, but they must win tonight, and hope the Italian champions don't beat Manuel Pellegrini's side, before winning their final match of the group stage. The home side can't finish in the top two, but a win over Sevilla tonight would boost their chances of beating the Spanish side to the Europa League spot.

Borussia are still looking for their first win of the competition this season, having lost their first two matches, before recording back-to-back draws with Juventus. Sevilla have won only once, but that was a comfortable 3-0 win over tonight's opponents on the opening matchday.

PREDICTION! The players are starting to gather in the tunnel ahead of kickoff, so there's just time for a quick prediction. It has been a disappointing campaign for both sides, with there's more riding on it for Sevilla tonight, and the Spanish side were the stronger of the two in the reverse fixture. Gladbach will be desperate not to go out of the competition without a single win, but I'm going for a 2-1 away win tonight.

KICKOFF! The visitors get the match underway.

Sevilla are keen to get forward early on with Vitolo squaring the ball in from the right towards Konoplyanka, but the home side make the clearance and press down the other end, resulting in Raffael trying his luck from long range, but Sergio Rico quickly dealt with it in the visitors' goal.

The home side force a corner as Rami turns a shot from Traore behind, but the resulting set piece comes to nothing, as Traore's ball back in is easily dealt with. It's worth noting that there's a bit of light rain falling in the stadium at the moment, which is making the surface a bit slippery under foot, but it doesn't seem to be hampering either side too much so far.

CHANCE! Rico is being tested by the home side in the opening stages of this match as Traore tries to drive the ball into the bottom corner, and it takes a wicked deflection, but the Sevilla stopper deals with it well.

Gladbach have started well, but Sevilla manage to get the ball back down the other end, with Kevin Gameiro weaving around Hordtveit to force a corner for the visiting side, but Krohn-Dehli's finish is lacking.

SUB! There's a big blow for the home side early on as Ibrahima Traore has tweaked his hamstring. He tried to play through it for a couple of minutes, but he's struggling, so Josip Drmic comes on in his place.

Traore had been making his presence felt in the opening 10 minutes of the match, so his exit is a huge loss for the Bundesliga outfit. Sevilla are clearly keen to make the most of their opponents' misfortune as they've been dominating possession since his withdrawal.

DISALLOWED GOAL! Kevin Gameiro thinks that he has opened the scoring as he picks up a cutback from Banega before rifling it into the bottom corner on the turn, but the assistant referee spotted that the ball went behind before the cross came in, so it won't count.

CHANCE! Sevilla press towards the Gladbach goal again as they continue to try to break the deadlock, but Gameiro and Coke get in each other's way on the edge of the box, much to the amusement of the home supporters. Konoplyanka swiftly wins it back for Sevilla though, attempting to power it into the bottom corner, but Yann Sommer makes the save, while Banega is unable to reach the rebound.

The hosts have had a quiet few minutes, but they're starting to see more of the ball again as Nordveit forces a corner with a long-range shot, but Raffael's delivery back in is easily cleared by the visitors. Traore had been on corner duty before he was forced off with an injury, and Raffael is one of the team's top scorers, so seems an odd choice to be putting the ball back in.

Gladbach are on the charge again, with a high ball coming over the top for Stindl. The forward lines up the ball, attempting an acrobatic overhead kick, but it ends up going well wide of the target.

Granit Xhaka has been pretty quiet in the opening 25 minutes, but he spots his chance from 25 yards out after Christensen wins the ball back for the hosts, but the looping finish is comfortable for Rico to take.

CHANCE! Rico has to make yet another save as Raffael unleashes a powerful, low finish from the edge of the box following another quick break from the home side, but he holds it well. Lars Stindl wins it back a couple of moments later, and tries a similar finish from the same range, but Rico is ready for it again. The Sevilla keeper has been kept busy early on, but has reacted well to everything that has come his way so far tonight.

Gladbach make their spell of pressure pay off as Xhaka thread the ball through from the left flank, picking out the run of Stindl, who just keeps himself onside long enough for the flag to stay down, before slicing the ball past Rico at the near post.

Konoplyanka tries to set something up down the other end as Sevilla look to hit back straight away, but his cross is put behind by Xhaka for a corner, which comes to nothing for Sevilla.

Krohn-Dehli battles hard to try to keep hold of the ball on the right of the Gladbach box, but Wendt is too quick for him, and manages to win it back for the hosts with ease.

BOOKING! Ever Banega picks up the first booking of the night as he catches Drmic with a late challenge.

The home side haven't created much going forward since opening the scoring, but they do get the ball in the box again as Drmic charges down the right before crossing towards Raffael, but Rami is there is flick it clear for the La Liga side.

Sevilla work their way back down the other end, with Gameiro attempting to cross the ball in for Konoplyanka, but it's a poor effort from the striker, who curls the ball straight at Sommer, leaving the keeper with an easy clearance.

Vitolo tries to cut inside from the right for the visitors, but finds his shot blocked by Hordtveit. Krychowiak unleashes a strike from the edge of the box as the home side struggle to clear the resulting corner, but it's deflected behind.

Sevilla give away the ball on the edge of their own penalty area, gifting Raffael a shot, which is blocked, before the rebound is fired over by Korb.

So, Lars Stindl's goal just before the half-our mark separates the two sides at the break. The home side have certainly shown the more attacking intent so far, while Sevilla have looked a little sluggish. With just one goal in it though, there's still time for the Spanish side to get back into the match.

In the opening 45 minutes, there was little to split the teams in terms of possession, with the hosts seeing 51% of the ball. The German side have been much busier in front of goal though, creating 19 shots to Sevilla's seven, including eight which have been on target, while just two of the visitors' efforts have tested Yann Sommer.

UPDATE: There's more bad news for Sevilla from Turin, as Juventus are leading Manchester City 1-0 in the other match in Group D, which would ensure that the Italian champions join their opponents in the knockout stage of the competition, ending the La Liga side's hopes of progressing from the group.

The players are starting to head back out of the tunnel ready for the start of the second half in Germany.

RESTART! Borussia Monchengladbach get the second half underway.

CHANCE! The home side almost double their lead just moments into the second period as Oscar Wendt, who showed plenty of intent getting ofrward in the opening 45 minutes, hits a powerful effort from 20 yards out, slicing it narrowly wide of the right post.

CHANCE! Sevilla immediately get involved down the other end, with a cross coming in towards Krohn-Dehli, but he can't get up high enough to get his head to it. The get it back straight away, with Banega attempting to curl the ball into the top left corner, but Sommer is alert to the danger.

BOOKING! Mahmoud Dahoud is the first player from the home side to pick up a yellow card as he catches Vitolo late.

The visitors have a free kick in a dangerous position as a result, which Banega lofts into the box, but Krychowiak's header is well blocked by Sommer. It was a committed attempt from the midfielder though, and he got clattered by the keeper for his efforts.

CHANCE! What a stunning save from Sergio Rico to deny an equally brilliant finish from Xhaka. Stindl stutters while trying to line up a shot from the edge of the box, but he manages to pass it back to the arriving captain, who absolutely thumps it from 20 yards out, but Rico's lightning fast reactions keep the ball out. The Sevilla keeper's palms will be stinging after that one.

This match is still really open, and it could easily go either way. Both teams are keen to run the ball through midfield, but Sevilla in particularly are struggling with the ball into the final third, while Borussia are keen to take their shots from the edge of the area, but just can't get the better of Rico, who is having an excellent game between the posts for the visitors.

Gladbach leave themselves wide open at the back, allowing Sevilla to push towards the home side's goal, but Gameiro lacks support, and is unable to take the shot on himself. The Bundesliga side quickly get back down the other end, but Dahoud's finish is well high.

Drmic plays Raffael in with a brilliant flick to his right near the penalty spot, but the striker stumbles, wasting a golden opportunity for the German side to double their lead.

SUB! The visitors make their first change of the night as Steven N'Zonzi comes on for Michael Krohn-Dehli, who has not been at his best this evening.

CHANCE! Konoplyanka lifts the ball over the top to Gameiro with a nicely-weighted chip, setting up the striker to try to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle, but he can't quite make it.

What a finish from Fabian Johnson! Korb plays the ball across to the midfielder on the left-hand side of the box, and he takes a touch before curling it into the top right corner. He was wide open, with Coke having lost track of his run somewhere in the build up, but it was a sensational finish regardless.

Sevilla get a corner as they try to give themselves the slightest chance to get back into this match, while Banega's ball back into the box is easily dealt with by the home side. Now that they have the two-goal cushion, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Gladbach dropping a little deeper to protect their lead.

CHANCE! Rather than sitting back, Borussia Monchengladbach clearly want to make a statement as they're pressing again, resulting in Raffael trying to stab the ball in from the middle of the penalty area, but his shot is straight at Rico.

CHANCE! Konoplyanka has a shot to try to cut the deficit for the visiting side, but his sliced finish it tipped clear by Sommer. The Gladbach keeper hasn't been tested as often as his opposite number, but he's pulled off some good stops this evening, including this one.

Raffael has spurned a couple of opportunities this evening, but he takes this one superbly, slipping the ball under Rico after Stindl squared the ball to his strike partner. The scorer of the opening goal could have taken it on himself, but he selflessly set up his teammate instead, surely ensuring that the win is in the bag for the home side now.

SUB! Gladbach make a second change as Mahmoud Dahoud makes way for Marvin Schulz.

Fernando Llorente, who hasn't been on the pitch all that long, has given the visitors a slither of hope as he lifts the ball over the top to Vitolo, who catches the home defenders napping to slot past a helpless Sommer. Surely they can't get another two?

Before Sevilla have even had chance to dream that they might have time to get back in this match, Borussia Monchengladbach restore the three-goal cushion, and it's another fantastic effort from just outside the area by Stindl after Raffael returned the favour from a few moments earlier, playing his strike partner through, before leaving Stindl to blast the ball into the roof of the net.

BOOKING! Drmic is in the book for a rash challenge on Krychowiak, which also gives the visitors a free kick in a promising position. What a lively final few minutes we've had!

Banega's free kick is flicked behind, giving the visitors a corner. Llorente gets a header away from the resulting set piece, but he can't get the ball away cleanly, nodding it well wide.

SUB! Nico Elvedi is the final player to come of for the home side, replacing Fabian Johnson, who scored the second of the four goals.

Despite the scoreline, Sevilla are desperately trying to add another consolation in the final moment, forcing a free kick on the edge of the box. Konoplyanka curls it in, but there's no-one there to head it in.

Sevilla do get another goal back as Granit Xhaka pulls Krychowiak down in the penalty box, giving the visiting side a spot kick. Banega steps up to take it, and smashes it to the left of the keeper.

After a rather frantic finish, including four goals in the last 12 minutes, Borussia Monchengladbach and Sevilla head off the pitch knowing that neither will be going through to the knockout stage of the Champions League. The home side already knew they were out, but at least have the silver lining of having secured their first win of the campaign, led by a brace from Lars Stindl.

Sevilla had to win this evening to keep their hopes alive, although Juventus are still beating Man City, which would have knocked the La Liga side out even if they had been victorious tonight. The result moves the Bundesliga side up to third in Group D, so will claim the Europa League spot if they avoid defeat on the final matchday.
